Case Study: BOONOOB, an Activity Platform with Social Aspects.

When discussing the planning of an event, gathering, or party, various preparations come into play, ranging from notifying friends to organizing assets and requirements. While several platforms aim to simplify some of these tasks, a common issue arises—what happens after the event concludes?

Many existing platforms function primarily as broadcast platforms, notifying people and displaying attendance numbers. Beyond that, their major features include allowing hosts to add tickets and sell them, essentially functioning as e-commerce platforms. Unfortunately, these platforms lack the capability to enhance the social aspect of an activity once it's finished.

This is where BOONOOB steps in to address a significant gap that has yet to be resolved.

BOONOOB aims to extend the social experience of an activity even after its conclusion, providing a comprehensive solution beyond the pre-event preparations and ticket sales.

How BOONOOB adds social flavor to an activity?

To answer this question, we conducted a focused group interview with individuals in the United States, specifically in California, known for their proficiency in organizing and hosting activities.

We posed several questions to gain insights into their experiences, preferences, and challenges. For instance:

A. We inquired about the significant issues encountered with existing platforms for creating and managing activities. Participants shared their perspectives on both positive and negative aspects of platforms such as Partiful, Luma, Eventbrite, and others.

B. Exploring the social aspects, we sought input on the types of social tools and engagements that would excite them in enhancing their activities and events.

C. With a focus on promotion and broadcasting, we delved into ways BOONOOB could assist in utilizing social tools effectively for activity promotion and engagement.

This comprehensive approach allows BOONOOB to tailor its features and offerings based on real-world feedback, ensuring a platform that not only addresses existing gaps but also anticipates and fulfills the evolving needs of activity hosts and organizers.

Eureka!!! 💡

After analyzing responses and collecting data, and researching both event and social platforms such as Instagram or Facebook, we discovered that the answer lies somewhere in between. We envision an activity platform where users can create posts, share their pre and ongoing moments through pictures, videos, or text. This platform would also allow users to add comments, express their attendance status (going, interested, or unable to make it), and show appreciation for an activity with a single click. Additionally, users can connect with others, befriend individuals of their choice, and organize activities within specified groups.

Now it's time to answer another question. How host can promote their activity? 🔊

Based on the insights from the focus groups, we uncovered an interesting behavior where users employ event platforms primarily for advertising their activities, subsequently selling tickets on a separate website or platform. This revelation prompted us to consider how we could assist them in streamlining this process.

Noticing a gap in existing platforms, we proposed a solution: creators can now add the link to their activity. Leveraging AI capabilities, we can seamlessly fetch activity data and integrate it into our platform. To incentivize BOONOOB users to explore these activities, we recommend creators include promo codes, encouraging users to visit their events on external platforms and seamlessly redirecting them to the specified website or URL. This innovative approach aims to enhance the overall user experience while catering to the needs expressed by the focus groups.

How AI could help us create a better experience? 🤖

After leveraging AI for data fetching, we contemplated additional ways to simplify the activity creation process for hosts. That's when inspiration struck!

We conceptualized a groundbreaking idea: what if hosts could provide a brief description, and our AI could autonomously generate an activity with minimal input? Well, we turned this concept into reality!

With this new capability, we recognized the importance of providing users with options. Hence, we introduced three distinct pathways for creating activities. To facilitate this choice, we implemented a bridge page where users can comfortably select the method that aligns with their preferences and ease of use. This innovative approach ensures a user-friendly experience, accommodating various comfort levels in the activity creation process.

Who is going to bring beer? 🍺

Addressing the need for improved communication between hosts and guests on a more personal level, as well as enhancing collaboration among multiple hosts, we introduced a solution: personal and group chat rooms.

Observing users struggling to communicate effectively, often resorting to third-party platforms like WhatsApp, we decided to integrate this feature directly into our app.

Our approach involves redirecting guests to the main activity chat page after attendance. Additionally, we automatically create a main chat group every time a host initiates an activity. To further streamline communication, hosts have the flexibility to create multiple chat rooms under the main chat group. These specialized rooms cater to different aspects of interaction, such as a dedicated room for party requirements. This innovative feature aims to foster better communication, personal interaction, and collaborative planning within the platform itself, eliminating the need for external messaging applications.

Deep research and prepare usability testings.

Throughout the development process, we meticulously crafted prototypes for each step and feature, subjecting them to user testing with specific individuals. By observing user behavior and assessing ease of use, we identified areas of struggle and iterated through different scenarios to pinpoint the most user-friendly processes for both hosts and attendees.

Our commitment to refinement led to a total of six significant UI changes, ensuring that the product's interface was optimized for an intuitive and seamless user experience. We prioritized user feedback and continuously adapted the design to enhance the overall flow.

Having validated the prototypes and refined the UI, we proceeded to test the fully developed product with real users. Through the analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and retention rates, we gained valuable insights into user preferences and tendencies. By tracking the directions users took in both creating and attending activities, we discerned which features were more frequently used.

Armed with this data, we focused on perfecting the features that resonated most with users, investing time and effort into enhancing their usability. Simultaneously, we addressed any shortcomings or difficulties in features that lacked ease of use, ensuring a well-balanced and user-centric final product.

To make the story short.

In conclusion, BOONOOB endeavors to revolutionize the landscape of activity planning and social interaction by addressing crucial gaps identified through focus groups and extensive research. Recognizing the limitations of existing platforms, we set out to enhance the social aspect of activities even after their conclusion, providing a holistic solution that extends beyond pre-event preparations and ticket sales.

Through our exploration of user needs, we discovered that individuals often use event platforms for advertising purposes while selling tickets on other platforms. To streamline this process, we introduced the option for creators to include activity links, utilizing AI to fetch relevant data seamlessly.

Expanding on the idea of leveraging AI, we went a step further and empowered hosts to create activities with minimal input through brief descriptions. This innovation, combined with existing methods, offers users multiple pathways for creating activities, ensuring flexibility and ease of use.

Addressing the challenge of effective communication among hosts and guests, we incorporated personal and group chat rooms directly within the app. By redirecting guests to the main activity chat page post-attendance and creating dedicated chat groups for each activity, we aim to foster better collaboration and interaction. Hosts can also establish additional chat rooms for specific aspects, such as party requirements.

In essence, BOONOOB not only identifies and resolves existing challenges but also anticipates and fulfills the evolving needs of users, making it a comprehensive and user-centric platform for activity planning and social engagement.
