ShipIt is a custom software solution utilizing modern technologies to help warehouse workers better maintain a record of their workflow while loading products onto delivery vehicles. The goal was to provide an interface that motivated and rewarded users, instead of just nagging them. This emotional approach to application design and development lead to better job performance and lower turnaround.
Emotional UI
Research shows an emotive UI evokes an emotional response from the user which results in added motivation to complete tasks correctly and more efficiently. People want to make others happy, even when those others are simply characters in an interface.
Easy UI
A good UI makes complicated concepts feel simple by organizing, illustrating, and de-mystifying. Acronyms re replaced with human language as often as possible. All important information is prominent in the interface, while additional in-depth information is always a click away. A good UI should never get in the way of something doing their job.
Integrated UI
The entire application was built around the capabilities of the device running it. The ideal workflow was one where users simply selected their dock and started scanning using the device's built-in IR scanner, and not interacting with the UI until scanning was completed. Because sometimes the best UI is no UI at all.
