Mysterium: High-Speed VPN

Mysterium VPN, an open-source company, offers a decentralized virtual private network (VPN) service based on peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. Their mission is to improve online privacy and security, and promote digital freedom. This is achieved by enabling anonymous and secure web browsing.

The service uses blockchain technology and a vast network of nodes worldwide to establish a decentralized VPN structure. This allows users to direct their Internet traffic through a network of volunteer-operated nodes. This innovative method is designed to offer enhanced privacy and more robust resistance to censorship than conventional VPN services.

Key Challenges:

  • Navigating the complexities of network and node interactions, particularly as a first experience into VPN development.

  • Ensuring seamless integration and collaboration between frontend and backend components, with the backend being managed by the client.

  • Addressing the need for compatibility across a wide range of Android devices and their various versions.

Project Tech Stack:

Figma, Kotlin, Testrail, BitRise, GitHub

Results:

  1. Development of a fully operational VPN application for Android.

  2. Over 500,000 downloads from the Google Play Store.

  3. Around 7,700 reviews, with an average rate of 4.

  4. Additional projects with the same client.
