So who's right?

I too often see overly beautiful layouts, but there is little point to them, yes, I may have made a bit of a joke and gone into unnecessary detail, after all at a glance the layout looks 4 out of 5. But isn't it the details that make the point? Are you sure? It's the details that make the design different, how much you've worked it out and made it as ready for reality as possible.

It's just a concept. OK, a concept, but what have you shown on it? How the colours match, well, then it's not web and especially not product design.
