Zozo Explores

One of the first and most challenging classes in my grad Illustration program was a comics class. I was new to comics and super intimidated by it. Our professor gave us an exercise to make a 4 pager based on a song we love. I chose a lullaby from a Hindi movie that my sister and I love. She was pregnant at the time and is now mom to a precious baby girl who inspired this. We didn’t have to color it in, and in that moment I didn’t believe in myself enough to think I would do it justice. Recently, I was struggling with a bit of block and looking through my earlier drawings for themes. I don't often do this because I feel like it is "cheating" or "stealing" even though it is from myself! I feel like as artists and storytellers we put all this pressure on ourselves to constantly create and be original. Fresh, new everything! I am so glad I got over all that and I gave this another shot because I love how it turned out and it inspired me to draw more!
