I reckon it’s worth doing work well, even if no one notices. Trying to finish Blanco, my graduating typeface from KABK has come to be one of the hardest things I’ve done in my working life. Revisiting old work like this and attempting to improve it is a path riddled with self doubt and frustration. For ages I thought I’d be able to allocate a big chunk of time and finish it all in one hit, which made the whole process seem overwhelming, and something I could easily delay. Recently I’ve instead being waking up early and it’s the first thing I do, before other work crowds my head. Slowly but surely I’m getting there by chipping away at it, making more progress than I ever have. I’m also starting to enjoy it again too.
