One of the projects that I’m most proud of is my data journalism project titled, “Venture Capital’s Glass Ceiling: Bridging the Gender Divide In Funding” which sheds light on the challenges female founders face in acquiring funding.
For this project, I examined multiple datasets, conceptualized a cohesive narrative, and created data visualizations to make the story come to life. My goal was to answer the research question, “How do I use data visualization to tell a story about the gender gap in venture capital?”
Based on the data, all-female founded startups received roughly 2% of the total capital invested in VC-backed startups for the past decade. Meanwhile, female co-founded startups (male and female-founded) received roughly 13% to 28% in funding.
