The Needle Beetle

I also wrote a little poem to go with my monster:

Every thousand years awakes a monstrous swarm-
Of crickets and bees that take a terrible form.
This sentient host is held by a skeletal skin.
It’s black iron shell is stuck with poisonous pins.
Fresh from its slumber it desires to feed -
on crops.. or on children? It’s not guaranteed!
The noise that it makes is not a natural sound:
but buzzing vibrations coming up from the ground.
And if you should hear this thunderous humming
It probably means the Needle Beetle is coming!
Though its eyes are quite blind, the Beetle can tell
where you are hiding from your human-y smell.
Quick! Spray all your body with 100 percent deet:
All through your hair to the toes on your feet.
Hopefully then the Needle Beetle will pass,
dispersing like a mist back into the grass.
