04 | Billie Eilish — Happier Than Ever
Damn, Billie did that. Okay, I don’t want to brag BUT, I can proudly say that I discovered Billie Eilish when she was still a SoundCloud girl and she released Ocean Eyes… and I gotta mention this bc for me, seeing how she blew up and became the superstar she is now is something HUGE. When she released her debut When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? I gotta say I wasn’t that impressed so that’s why she didn’t make it to the Top 10 list from that year, but girl, Happier Than Ever, just hit different for me. I don’t know if it is the fact that she is more mature now and with it, that her sound/voice evolved, or if it is because a lot of the production on this album seem to take inspiration from the 90s experimental music, but this record is exquisite from beginning to end. FINNEAS really snapped with the many genres that you can find in this album, from uptempo bossa nova beats and soft pop rock jams to trip hop instrumentals à la Massive Attack and goddess Björk herself. If this is how Billie will keep evolving, I can’t wait to see what else she will have in store for us in the upcoming years.
