Dr. Poppers
What is Dr. Poppers?
Thought by many to be a remedy for the more "powerless" ones, Dr. Poppers is largely considered as a miracle product.
Carefully elaborated in 19?̶X̸ by renowed local genius Dr. Paul Perse, the product’s consistence remains a mystery to everyone.
---
Dr. Poppers is typically what you'd call a joke that's gone too far.
Starting out as a simple play on words, it's perhaps my most accomplished project as of now, developed over the course of a year in my spare time out of a pure passion for design, illustration and motion design... and also out of a love for the aesthetics of the last century.
I wanted to create an "all-around" project, which would include everything I enjoy to do, as well as pushing back my limits. Even going so far as to tackle fields I had little to no mastery of, such as AI, 3D, traditional animation, webdesign or even voice-over.
Flavors
While drawing on inspirations from all over the last century (mainly from the 1930s to the 80s), the challenge for this anachronistic project was to remain graphically coherent.
What follows will introduce you to the visual universe of every flavor.
For each flavor a different pattern, color theme, custom title art and character based on the effects of the poppers.
You may recognize the 1930s rubberhose style for the characters, patterns inspired by 1970s tapestries and a writing inspired by the 1950s, complete with racy tone and dad puns.
AI-Generated Images
Moving with the times, I guess.
This experimental project was the perfect opportunity to try out our dear friend (?) the artificial intelligence. Here are the key visuals of a hypothetical campaign with a more realistic look, inspired by the 40s and 60s.
Generated with Midjourney, I admit, but all conceptualized and edited by myself.
Goodies
Any soda brand released in the 19?̴X̵ is bound to have its share of goodies.
7up released a game on SEGA Genesis (remember Cool Spot?), so why couldn’t Dr. Poppers have one on SNES? The artstyle is halfway between 50s cartoon title cards and 90s animated films VHS covers.
I also imagined several miscellaneous goodies, including a 3D plastic figure, hoodies, and real stickers and posters.
Fresh Edition™
If the brand had really been created in the last century and evolved with our current minimalist trends, the cans would certainly look like this today.
These "fresh" versions were mainly an excuse to play with these 70s patterns.
Website
What better than a showcase website to present your brand and sell your products?
Each text is written with an old-school, humorous touch.
Please check out the case on Behance to see a showcase video demonstrating the full browsing of the page.
Social Media
Posting Dr. Poppers on social media wasn't the final purpose of this project...
It was in fact another variation of it, just like the posters or the video.
The story campaigns, the Instagram feed, and showing that I managed to get one of the cans made for real... All of this were a nice way to conclude this long project.
