Automotive HMI Design – Dashboard
Recently, I've been experimenting with automotive HMI, particularly focusing on ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
When designing this, I tried to stay in line with the brand, keeping the design minimal and avoiding any gimmicky experiences, which feel unnecessary in this particular case. In an infotainment system, though, I would consider adding some more creativity. I'm quite impressed by how car manufacturers are now using Unreal Engine for infotainment systems, making them personalized, interactive, and dynamic (but still, please keep physical controls for things like climate!).
While modeling this dashboard, I took a lot of inspiration from the Porsche 911 (992) dashboard. The mix of the classic physical tach gauge alongside the digital display is something I really admire. It's a bit sad thinking that everything will be digital in the next generation; I believe many car enthusiasts will miss the physical elements.
