Like many creatives, I’ve been trialling a lot of AI tools this year.
Partly, to gauge their usefulness in streamlining my icon and pictographic design process. And partly to gauge how long I’ve got left in my career.
The good news, for me at least, is that I’ve noted two distinct weaknesses common to them all.
Firstly, they’re terrible at coming up with original ideas. When searching for metaphors, every result is either drearily predictable (generic), or super literal (unnecessarily complex).
Think “create me a symbol to depict ‘Happy Hour at an Alpine Ski Resort’”? Cue an avalanche of crap.
The second thing is the shockingly poor quality of the assets they produce. Editable vectors look like smudged 90’s clipart whilst the razor-sharp fully 3D stuff isn’t editable enough.
Therefore, I’m joining the AI noise and announcing my own platform, RBD ai.
Unlike the existing AI engines out there already, I’m utilising machines + learning to generate:
+ Ideas that are unexpected and unique.
+ Metaphors that are intuitive and inclusive.
+ Symbols that are appropriately styled.
+ Assets that are immaculately crafted.
+ An interface that is collaboratively human.
