Q&A Onboarding

Onboarding

No one wants to read manuals on product to be able to use it. But those multistep tooltip tours that products use often are kind of the same manual, even though decreased in size. User has to read it, remember it and then recall it when it’s time to get the task done.

That is very naive to believe it’ll work. Too many things can go wrong:

  • user can skip because doesn’t need it yet

  • if miracle happens and user reads it, he can forget it by the time this information is needed

Timing is everything.

Giving hints when people need them and can immediately use them is the best we can do:

  • they can get their task done right away

  • there’re more chances they’ll remember it after they do the action.

With this in mind I’ve started working on Studio Onboarding by making it integrated in the product instead of adding it as an additional layer on top of the product.
