Travel Planner Mobile App - Case Study
Project Overview
We embarked on the Safetity project, with a primary focus on travel safety. In a world marked by diverse security concerns, our mission was to delve into the realm of travel safety, a global issue that encompasses various forms of insecurity, including natural disasters, accidents, and more. We sought to understand the challenges faced by travelers when planning their trips and how we could contribute to ensuring their safety.
The Global Pandemic - A Pivotal Event
The global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic served as a pivotal case study. This highly contagious virus rapidly spread worldwide, causing significant damage to both public health and the global economy. We pondered how better travel safety measures might have mitigated the virus's spread, reinforcing our belief in the critical importance of this project.
Extensive Research and Collaboration
Our journey began with thorough research, including interviews with world explorers, industry stakeholders, and experts. We validated assumptions and conducted surveys, in addition to reviewing existing research on the subject. We found that travel safety concerns resonate across individuals, corporate entities, and governments, highlighting the universal relevance of this project.
The Design Thinking Approach
Given limited resources and time constraints, we adopted a design thinking approach, placing the user at the core of our design process. This method empowers iterative problem-solving, ultimately leading to cost-effective and efficient solutions. Our design process spanned the stages of empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing.
Introducing the Solution: Safetity Trip Planner
Our solution, the Safetity Trip Planner, is a mobile app designed to empower travelers to safely plan their journeys. It assists users in discovering travel requirements, safety recommendations, and other vital information for a secure trip.
Project Impact
The project, executed over 16 weeks, aimed to address the challenges faced by world explorers in ensuring travel safety. We set out to enable travelers to easily access safety protocols and requirements based on their destinations and interests. Our roles included service design, user research, wireframing, visual design, prototyping, usability studies, and design handoff.
A Human-Centered Approach
We applied empathy maps, user pain points, competitive audits, and How Might We questions to guide our ideation. The resulting information architecture allowed us to create a user-friendly app. We also performed digital and low-fidelity prototype testing, leading to refined designs that prioritized clear categorization and labeling, as well as usability improvements.
A Future of Improvement and Testing
In our journey, we discovered the critical role of post-launch usability studies and continuous evaluation in enhancing user interface and experience. We are excited to move forward, engaging with beta testers, working closely with developers, and striving to meet ever-higher accessibility standards.
