Seeding the City

"Seeding the City: A Celebration of Nature Through Art"

On Earth Day, April 22, 2023, amidst the iconic backdrop of the Helms Bakery District's Corridor Gallery, I had the honor of being part of an extraordinary event - "Seeding the City: Nature’s Story." Curated by the talented Olga Severina of PosterTerritory, this international poster exhibition showcased the works of over 50 designers from more than 25 countries, each bringing their unique interpretation of nature's narrative.

Collaborating with Marco Natoli, we embarked on a journey to create a poster that not only resonated with the theme but also captured the essence of nature's profound impact on our well-being. Our combined vision, crafted with four hands, two minds, and two hearts, was a testament to the transformative power of nature, even in its mere depiction.

The exhibition was more than just a display; it was a celebration. Helms Bakery District transformed into a haven for art enthusiasts, inviting Angelenos to immerse themselves in playful and powerful visualizations, interactive workshops, and pop-up displays. It was a reminder of how nature, in all its forms, can be a tonic for our urban souls.

Among the myriad of artworks, a special moment etched in my memory was the genuine appreciation from a young girl named Liza. Her choice of our poster as her favorite was a heartwarming affirmation of our efforts.

This Earth Day event was not just about showcasing art; it was about seeding the city with stories of nature, reminding us of its beauty, importance, and the solace it offers. I am deeply grateful to PosterTerritory and Helms Bakery District for this incredible opportunity and to all who joined us in celebrating the wonders of nature.

At the heart of the poster lies a scene reminiscent of Michelangelo's iconic "Creation of Adam," but with a contemporary and ethereal twist. Two hands, meticulously crafted in 3D, stretch towards each other, their fingertips almost touching. These aren't just any hands; they shimmer with an iridescent glow, transitioning seamlessly from shades of mystical violet to passionate red and deep celestial blue, evoking a sense of otherworldly beauty.

But what truly sets this artwork apart is the environment that envelops these hands. Flourishing flowers bloom in vibrant hues, symbolizing the burst of life, while intricate vines entwine themselves around the fingers, representing nature's embrace. These elements converge towards the centerpiece: a pristine droplet of water, poised delicately between the fingertips of the two hands. This droplet, though small, signifies the essence of life, the catalyst that sparks the explosion of vitality and growth.

The entire composition is a harmonious blend of classical inspiration and modern design, capturing the essence of life's creation and the profound impact of nature's touch. It's a visual journey that invites viewers to reflect on the delicate balance of life and the beauty that emerges when nature and artistry intertwine.
