Order modification in case of Item Out of stock
The problem
Sometimes, when an order is placed at a restaurant, items might go out of stock, perhaps because the restaurant didn't update its inventory on time or they served the last stock offline. While some restaurants call their customers to offer a replacement, most often, the order is canceled, leading to frustration for the consumer who has to decide what to eat all over again. We aim to solve this problem by salvaging orders with 'out of stock' items and reducing overall cancellations in these cases.
The solution
In response to this issue, we've implemented a solution by placing the order on hold instead of canceling it. This allows consumers the opportunity to modify their order directly from the same screen. Additionally, we've created a section featuring quick selections of replacements similar to the item that ran out of stock, streamlining the decision-making process. Once a replacement is chosen, any difference in the amount will be automatically adjusted in the new bill.
