‘Gundu Manga’ Tamil groovy font

“I am thrilled to launch my ‘Gundu Manga’ Tamil groovy font. This project has been a wonderful journey that I’ve truly enjoyed. This font is special to me because it breaks away from formal styles and is uniquely characterized by its playful and attractive curves.

As a typography artist, I often explore the works of other artists and the diverse styles and design collections found in various languages. However, I noticed a lack of such variety when it comes to Tamil fonts. This inspired me to create something unique, and thus, ‘Gundu Manga’ was born.”

“Gundu Manga”

When it came time to name this font, I had specific criteria in mind. It had to be a Tamil word, something playful and funny. I had initially given it another name, but it just didn’t capture the essence of this font’s character. So, I decided on ‘Gundu Manga,’ which translates to ‘Chubby Mango’ in Tamil.

it’s deeply rooted in Tamil cuisine. In the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, the Gundu Mango has been a culinary mainstay with a long history. If you look at this mango with an artistic eye, you’ll see its charm. The top of the mango swells, and there’s a smaller bulge at the bottom. The curve with a sharp bulge at the base adds to its unique beauty.

Uyir Ezhuthu X Mei Ezhuthu

In Tamil, we have 247 letters, but these are built on the foundation of two primary sets: Mei Ezhuthu and Uyir Ezhuthu consist of 12 primary letters, although it can be extended to 13 letters. Mei Ezhuthu is more extensive, with 18 letters.

The combination of these 12 Uyir Ezhuthu letters with the 18 Mei Ezhuthu letters results in the creation of the remaining 246 letters of the Tamil alphabet.

How this combinations works?

Let me explain how these combinations work. I will do my best to help you understand how Mei Ezhuthu and Uyir Ezhuthu combine.

For example, if you take the Mei Ezhuthu letter “IK” and combine it with the Uyir Ezhuthu letter “A,” you get “Ka.” Similarly, combining “IK” from Mei Ezhuthu with “AA” from Uyir Ezhuthu results in “Kaa.” Likewise, “IK” from Mei Ezhuthu and “I” from Mei Ezhuthu form “Ki.”

This is how the combination of Uyir Ezhuthu and Mei Ezhuthu works.

If you apply the same formula for every letter combination, you can generate the remaining 246 letters. This is a combination of “IK” from Mei Ezhuthu and “A” from Uyir Ezhuthu, which gives you various combinations like Ka, Kaa, Ki, Kii, Ku, Koo, Ke, Kea, Kai, Ko, Koa, and Kou.

Nedil and Kuril

In Tamil, Nedil and Kuril are among the major attributes of the Tamil language. These terms are related to the sounds of Tamil letters, and they play a significant role in producing these sounds. However, they aren’t related to the physical shape of the letters.

“Auxiliary Letters

These words don’t have any meaning when they stand alone. Furthermore, they aren’t written as stand-alone letters when forming words. Additionally, they lack a unique sound, unlike other individual letters. The meaning of auxiliary letters becomes evident when they are combined with other letters. They serve the purpose of assisting certain letters in forming meaningful combinations.
