Wag: Loving care for your dog

Defining the Problem

Following the outlined process, we used Figjam to facilitate a collaborative brainstorming session to identify the challenges dog owners face and the potential risks and issues that might arise if these challenges are left unaddressed.

Throughout this creative session, we generated ideas with the aim of effectively resolving the concerns and issues experienced by dog owners.

Competitive Analysis

I then conducted a comprehensive competitive analysis of two of the well-known apps within the market segment. My objective was to discern the distinctive qualities that made each of these apps stand out and to pinpoint their unique selling propositions (USPs).

Through this analysis, I aimed to gain valuable insights into what has contributed to their success and how we might apply similar strategies to our own project.

User Research

I gained valuable insights into the pain points and challenges that dog owners encounter through interviews.

From there, I created a user persona that represents all these dog owners. I was also able to identify the essential features that dog owners cannot do without.

Here's the top 5:

  1. Reliability and Trustworthiness

  2. Convenience and Peace of Mind

  3. Lack of Personal Connection

  4. Detailed Instructions

  5. Walk Length and Timing

User Flows

Based on research, the competitive analysis helped us assemble the perfect flow. Our aim is to provide dog owners with a reliable and trustworthy platform to ensure their dogs receive the necessary exercise and attention when they are unable to personally attend to their needs.

By streamlining communication, connecting dog owners with trusted dog walkers, offering flexible scheduling options and providing real-time tracking and updates for peace of mind.

Wireframes

Once I had the user flow concept in mind, I began sketching simple wireframe designs. Drawing inspiration from competitors, I experimented with different layout options.

I also sketched out a variation that allowed dog walkers to highlight their services through promoted cards, potentially creating a new revenue stream for the business.

Usability Testing

Pain Point 1

During user testing, some users pointed out that the calendar's scrolling could be improved. They had difficulty scrolling past it because it was originally designed as a vertical scroll.

In response to this feedback, I promptly updated the design to horizontal scrolling, effectively resolving the issue.

Pain Point 2

Some users have expressed a desire to view more dog walkers without the need for extensive scrolling.

To address this, I've implemented two views: grid and row. This allows users to switch between them.

Conclusion

The main goal with this project was to make a user-friendly dog walking app that links dog owners with trustworthy walkers, offers flexible scheduling, and accommodates different socialization preferences. We wanted to solve the common challenges people face when trying to find reliable dog care, and I think I've achieved just that.

If I had more time to work on it, I'd like to expand on the user profile section and add some cool features to track walks.

In summary, our journey to create this app has been all about making dog owners' lives easier. We'll keep making it better and better for you and your furry friends!
