Genecipher
Description
We created a game for doctors' and oncologists engagement where they helped develop more personalized and customized treatments for cancers through Game Development. This is a novel development in cancer treatment and prevention with the help of gene study.
Testing for a disease-related biomarker and administering a focused therapy are examples of personalized healthcare. Roche, however, is integrating this individualized approach throughout the patient care continuum to create personalized, technology-enabled, evidence-based healthcare solutions, driven by Game Development. They are getting closer to achieving the aim of enhancing lives and promoting better health at a reduced cost to individuals and society by utilizing data, analytics, and technology throughout R&D and the care continuum.
By partnering up with Digitrends, Roche developed a casino-based card game that aids HCPs in identifying cancer mutations in an individual's DNA sequence, showcasing the innovative potential of Game Development in advancing healthcare.
Challenge
Cell mutation, sometimes known as cancer, is the result of alterations in a cell's DNA or RNA. The mutation, however, is person-specific, meaning that each person's malignant cells are distinct because mutations vary in kind, quantity, and cancer forms. Even if a person has the same cancer type as another person, their mutations may be distinct and necessitate a different course of therapy.
By determining the person's DNA and/or RNA mutations, Foundation Medicine Inc. (FMI); a product of Roche pharma, enables the doctor to provide a more specialized and tailored therapy with fewer side effects and a better outcome. Based on this knowledge, an interactive card-based game was developed to help HCPs pre-identify mutations in various cancer cells.
Solution
This card game turned out to be a novel development in learning more about cancerous gene mutation which helps in the early identification of cell mutation that in turn helps in the treatment and management of cancer in an early stage. All cards will be displayed for 5 seconds and then flipped and shuffled with the ref showing only on the first slide. On every wrong selection, the health will decline and the HCP will lose 100 points. The health meter will start blinking if the HCP chooses 2 wrong cards. Once the health meter starts blinking, a pop-up will appear suggesting the HCP click the FMI button to find the mutations to save the patient's life. On the click of the FMI button, BONUS cards will appear showing all the mutations and new ones that were found by FMI.
On 3 wrong selections, the health will further decline and the tissue samples will end. Since the coins will be less than 300, the FMI button will be disabled. A pop will appear suggesting to try again to save the patient’s life. The Try Again button will reset the cards, health, tissues, and coins but will not change the time remaining. The HCP will have to complete the game within the given time or else they will lose the game.
