Pink Whale
Hey Pals!
This week I received an email that seemed too good to be true. They asked me for a quote to create an illustration that would later be featured on a mural in a very cool place. I was OVER THE MOON with excitement. I did what every excited and productive person does when they receive such emails; I called my mom and dad and told them the news. I created a Pinterest board and started watching documentaries and photos of what the mural would be like, where my daughter would go and tell her little friends, all dressed up in their cute little uniforms. With much happiness, my mom did the same, and everyone would take beautiful photos with their cute little uniforms.
Days passed, and I had already bought 450 brushes for Procreate and Photoshop. I had a composition of photos ready of how the elements would go when a WhatsApp message came in with 5 words that said, "We're not going to do it anymore." And that was such a letdown, like when you're expecting to have cheesy pizza on the edge and they tell you no, there's soup instead.
So, I did what every productive and creative woman does; I called my mom to share the news. Well, the conversation revolved around just 2 words: "That happens." Then, everything was about Oli 🤣🤷🏻♀️ (My baby girl of 7 month old).
From there, this illustration of a happy pink whale flowing in its deep sea where everything is pink and alive emerged (and you don't have to deal with disappointing projects, pay taxes, or have problems with any borders, just a happy pink whale).
I'm venturing into the fantastic world of children's illustration, and I'm quite enjoying it. It's a world where everything is possible (like a happy pink whale), and everything can tell a story.
