Kinard Beach, Ireland
#Kinardbeach Ireland. I finally finished this animation of the waves crashing over the rocks at Kindard beach in Ireland, a tiny cove near Dingle that captivated me. The roar of the waves can be deafening here, the sound bouncing off the crumbled cliff face surrounding it. I sat there for hours, meditating, drawing and writing, in awe of the arresting power of nature, and fascinated by the way the water rises and falls, crashing into itself, erupting over the rocks. Its just a few seconds but this animation took me a month to finish, learning the complex dynamics of water along the way.
I started drawing stills with paper and pen, then rough animation in Procreate on my Ipad Mini.
I made the clean version in Toonsquid and then, returning home switched to TvPaint so I could work on a big screen. I did a little compositing and masking in After Effects including using puppet pins to get the surface of the water to curl into the wave as it rises up.
