Seamless Repeat Pattern 89

I usually skip sharing the parent pattern. Yes! I call the 1st complete pattern swatch ‘parent pattern’ - the final of all the finals! All nuances fixed, well composed.

Since when I am not sure now, I kinda felt a strong nudge to work in beautiful colors from the very beginning of the pattern making process. I started using basic swatches (the preloaded ones in the Illustrator). Yes, I would be recoloring so it doesn’t really matter I am giving what color where. But that strong inner voice was in a consistent persistent mode - "I would enjoy my work even more if I am working with ‘looks pleasing to eyes’ colors. I and the pattern both deserve looking bright, cheery!"

Ok, enough with trying to explain with words. The example you are seeing in the comparing photo – they are the ‘parent patterns’ – previous vs recent. I thought it would make an interesting post at this point – stretching my comfort zone by sharing not so good phase of design + at the same time the visible, tangible trace of progress is nicely laid out in front of my eyes. Can’t unsee it.

I am feeling happy and with this post, I am sharing the joy with everyone here. After all, this account is as much for the really beautiful ones as for the ‘not quiet there yet’ ones.

Now that I look over to that point - the old one looked broken, a bit similar to what I was going through then. Each pattern I complete, seems like I am becoming whole again through the process. Creating a pattern is not just about a pattern, it’s reconnecting with my abandoned self. Feels like now I can be at home within myself.
