The Sofianer: E. Bagryana & The Star

I am thrilled that my cover is among the selected ones for the second annual edition of the imaginary magazine “The Sofianer”, a collective artistic project showing Sofia through the eyes of Bulgarian artists, and a tribute to the legendary magazine "New Yorker".

For my first submission, I chose to illustrate Elisaveta Bagryana, the first Bulgarian poetess born in the capital. She bore witness to Haley's comet twice in her life- in 1910 and again in 1986. She also dedicated a poem called "The Star" to the comet which inspired me to draw her writing it. I also gave her an engraved Montblanc pen (she most certainly did not have one) because she deserves it.
