The Night of Writing Dangerously 2015
I was asked to again create the promotional poster & collateral materials for this year's Night of Writing Dangerously, a fundraising event for National Novel Writing Month held in San Francisco annually. This was one of my favorite projects to work on last year, so I was excited to be asked back.
The event always has a noir/Art Deco theme, so this year I decided to letter and illustrate a poster that felt vaguely like a brass and marble facade you might find on an old Art Deco building. The actual logo for National Novel Writing Month has a crest with four totems of writing, so here I included them as bas reliefs, guarded by four dangerous animals. The viking helmet from the original logo is also in this design, hidden in the crescent moon relief. To the left and right (in the brass grating) are Art Deco monograms for NaNoWriMo, and scattered throughout are proofreader's shorthand symbols. All type is custom lettered.
