Moon: NFT Marketplace App Case Study

Project overview

Client

Moon is a new up and coming startup with the goal of revolutionizing the NFT marketplace business with a design-first approach and a deeply curated experience for the users.

Goal

Establish a visual language for the Moon app. Lock a visual aesthetic and then scale the design on multiple screens, based on the wireframes and the flow that is provided from the client. Build a UI library of the final UI screens and create a functional prototype.

Audience

• Folks who closely follow the world of NFT and digital art

• Tech savvy

• Has a strong sense for visual aesthetic and art

• Values curated and beautiful experiences

Deliverables

• New visual language

• UI library and design system with components, modules, and brand style guide

• 5 fully designed screens

• Functional Figma Prototype

Role

This project is for a fictional client as part of a Figma course. I was the sole designer.

Mood board 1: Dark Neon

For the first mood board, I focused on a sleek, dark, tech-aligned aesthetic. This visual direction would connect more with the tech savvy segment of the target audience.

Mood board 2: Bold & Playful

For the second mood board, I focused on a different aesthetic of being more artful, colorful, and bold. This visual direction would connect more with the art loving side of the target audience.

Visual Exploration

Concept 1 was the visual direction I chose to use for Moon. The aesthetic had the perfect balance of tech savvy and artful elements to broadly connect with the target audience.

Takeaways and next steps

This project allowed me to further develop my UI design skills and learn what it takes to start from the ground up when designing an app. This project also gave me a good intro into learning Figma and getting a grasp on the more complex capabilities, e.g auto layout and how to use it to scale designs.

From here, I will continue to learn Figma and auto layout to improve my workflow and implement what I've learned in my daily work as a designer.
