soon we will know a lot more about supernovae..

"In 2019, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, or LSST, will revolutionize our understanding of supernovae. Like DES, this telescope will march across the sky and take images. But LSST is designed to collect more light and peer deeper into space. It will move rapidly across the sky and take more images in larger chunks. This will increase the number of supernovae we see by hundreds of thousands per year. Scientists will be able to form a more complete catalogue of all the different varieties of supernovae."
