Infographic Design - Local Sustainability

'Tjatjarag' is a South African slang term to describe when someone is being "forward", or overly eager about something. Taking a look at conversations of climate change, people tend to turn a blind eye at the slightest mention of it. Its become an uncomfortable conversation, as we reckon with the negative footprint we have as humans on this planet. I created the organization 'Si Tjatjarag', to face this topic directly and open up the possibilities of contributing positively in our immediate environments.

'Ikasi' is a South African vernacular term referring to your 'hood' or an area you frequent. This infographic poster takes a close-up look at spaces in the immediate environments students traverse on campus in Stellenbosch. Certain spots on campus become familiar places to meet up and sit with friends, study by or take a break and relax - these spots sort of become 'kasi's' of their own for different groups of students. Si Tjatjarag as an organization surveyed and studied hotspots on campus to see what waste materials are found frequently in certain areas or hotspots. From this infographic, students could become more aware of their surroundings and take claim of their spots to make sure they are clean and contributing positively to the overall campus environment. Students can also learn important facts about the waste found in those spots, and learn about alternatives or measures to take to avoid perpetuating the issue.

Overall, Si Tjatjarag encourages a baby step approach to sustainability, where everyone can play a big role in conserving our planet, by taking care of their immediate surrounds. The organization is forward, bold and overly eager about sustainability and hopes to encourage a similar sentiment in students as well.
