Mothers, Sisters, Daughters - Part One
May 17th. This weeks post on https://charlotteshea.substack.com/, is very near and dear to my heart. The author of MultiHyphenate Housewife, Charlotte Shea, and I are related by marriage. Her sister, is married to my brother. This post is Char's testimony of when Em nearly died from an ectopic pregnancy. I used the red partition, in part, to represent blood but also to accent a part of the essay. Char, having had 4 relatively easy, full term births, writes about the sorrow of watching a sisters hope, constantly get deferred. I liked the idea of partitions to highlight the difficulty Em would face in having children, kinda like a maze. Although this story ends hopeful, it didn't feel like it at the time. This piece is a time stamp of a very dark period. Now, in contrast, having Em with us, feels that much sweeter, just remembering how easily, otherwise, it might have turned out .
