Midnight Flight

Did you know that moths use moonlight as a way to orientate themselves and navigate through the night?

That little fun fact was the inspiration behind this digital collage. The same instinct to chase the moon is also why they often end up confused and betrayed by other bright sources of light such as a lightbulb or a flame.

I borrowed some inspiration from futurist art and tried to emulate the movements of the moth's wings through repetition, offset, and superposition. To do that, I screenshotted frames from an actual video of a moth flying and edited the images one by one to create the composition.
