LightShow (streaming service) - Product Design case study

PROJECT OVERVIEW

PRODUCT

Lightshow is a streaming service that celebrates cinema designed to deliver a mix of big budget Hollywood movies and champion lower self budgeted filmmaker projects.

THE PROBLEM

Younger users are having trouble transitioning from their parents profiles to their own. Users as young as 4 have their own profiles so they can access family friendly content, but sometimes it takes more than 10-12 movements on their controller to get to a hidden profile switch screen.

PROCESS

  1. User flow

  2. Wireframes

  3. Visual design

  4. Prototype

  5. Test

  6. Refine & deliver

ROLE & RESPONSIBILTY

My role for this project was UX/UI design plus prototyping & user testing.

My responsibility in this project was to take take the conducted research and deliver the goal of moving between accounts easily for all audiences by creating a new user flow, designing wireframes, creating mood boards from the information at hand and designing the final prototype ready for testing and implementation.

IDEATION

USER FLOW

I built a user flow starting from when the user logs in through to watching a tv show or movie for both an adults and a kids account. It was important to make sure that on any screen the accounts could be switched from one to the other.

An important factor for this was to ensure that when the account switches from Kids to Adults the user goes through the security process to keep younger users safe from adult content.

WIREFRAMES

When wireframing the project I wanted to keep in mind that the kids accounts could have users at a very young reading ability age, therefore I wanted to use less text and more visual aids on how to navigate the service when in the Kids account.

Due to the need of being able to switch between accounts at any given time I opted for a side navigation bar in the wireframe stage to create an easy avatar block for switching accounts at the top of the screen.

ADDING VISUAL DESIGN

Taking key factors from the business idea I focused on a celebration of cinema for the Adult account using a more mid century/art deco design which stayed true in a more vibrant and fun way for the Kids account.

TAKEAWAYS

This case study has been a great addition into progressing my abilities and thought process, especially in terms of how important a good idea from the userflow stage can make the wireframing and prototyping stages take their shape. I have enjoyed taking on a project that is not only very interesting to me but also one I have been able to take personal experiences to improve my ideology.

I’d like to continue working on projects that need similar problems to be solved as I’ve found it very rewarding and especially important with how technology and streaming services are evolving.
