UX/UI onboarding case study - WAGO

Overview

Wago platform was created to help empower professionals. The social feature on the Wago platform aims to enable and facilitate professionals to share their experiences with other industry professionals as well as their portfolio with potential clients in a quick and easy way - in case they do not have their own website.

The Goals

To create an onboarding experience for proffesionals to be able to create their social profiles and use them with ease hence increase the number of the users. The other goal was to refresh the design of the website in a more contemporary manner and make it consistent with the feature design.

Diagnosis

First of all we needed to know why the onboarding rate was low. We dug into our main users, interviewed them and created the empathy map.

Findings

  • Complicated forms to fill - the forms were too detailed and took a long time to fill in - users were overwhelmed by the amount of data they had to fill in without really knowing what the purpose was

  • Unclear benefits - users didn't know how it will affect their business and relations

  • Too many information at once discouraged users from porceeding

  • Lots of features — the more function feature has, the more difficulties would a user have in exploring and understanding each one of them.

  • Misleading copy and commands - the users were unfamiliar with used terms

Design

Research insights help frame design considerations. How Might We questions were central to solution-oriented brainstorming.

As a result the user:

  1. is asked for less information- only sufficient we give the user the choice to skip it and add it later.

  2. is shown what the benefits of a feature are.

  3. can get in app as soon as possible - the user can try the feature out first without setting an account.

  4. faces simple layouts with less information and easy actions.

  5. always can step back from the process and know how many steps are ahead of him.

  6. at the end is encouraged to take immediately an action to engage
