iOS8 Control Center Redesign
There are many attempts to improve overloaded control center on dribbble.
I wanted to improve usability first of all, and only then reduce clutter and improve visual design.
Here are the thoughts behind my attempt.
1. Simplified layout by regrouping 3 blocks (top buttons and brightness, music player, bottom buttons) to 2 blocks (functions, music player).
2. More often used buttons are more accessible (check out accessibility map for iPhone6 in attachment):
- the most often used buttons are now easier to reach;
- it's not so convenient to use buttons at the very bottom edge of the screen, so I moved rarely used Airdrop and Airplay to the very bottom;
- camera, as the most used bottom button, is first in a row, because the right bottom corner is one of the most difficult accessible spots on the screen.
3. Reduced clutter:
- translucent background is divided by 2 parts instead of 5 parts with different background opacity;
- no brightness and volume icons around sliders;
- no useless background under bottom buttons;
- calculator looks simpler and is similar to the app icon.
4. Visual improvements:
- Bluetooth icon is thicker and works better with the rest of top buttons;
- torch icon is lower to visually fit the rest of bottom icons;
- inactive part of sliders is translucent, it's not important thing to see;
- the most ugly thing in control center - the arrow at the top is not an arrow anymore, but exactly the same rectangle as on the lock screen, it's also translucent, as is not important;
- camera icon is simplified and the lens line is now 2px instead of 3px to be consistent with the rest of icons.
5. Other usability improvements:
- track name is black and font weight is medium for better readability;
- the track name is above the track seek bar, which seems more logical and I'd like to see the same improvement in the Music app.
One mistake I noticed in some other control center redesigns is usage of 2 sliders one above each other which will cause misoperations.
I bow low if you've read all this text :)
