Borcher Family Wines Label Illustrated by Steven Noble
Borcher Family Wines commissioned Steven Noble to create a customized label illustration for their packaging labels that represents the story behind the landscape. In 2007 the winery decided to pursue their dream of producing world class wines in California. After years of searching, they found a piece of land with the perfect conditions: a 25-hectare mountaintop located in the middle of the mountain ridge that separates Sonoma and Napa Valley. The land had never before been cultivated, let alone inhabited, and was surrounded by more than 1,000 hectares of nature reserve – a pristine and wild mountain area with a raging river, giant redwood trees and, most importantly, a 3-hectare southwest-facing slope of well-drained volcanic soil.
Before they could plant the field, they had to move tons of large rocks and stones. The white stones of compressed volcanic ash surround the vineyard today and form a characteristic diamond-shaped wall, which has inspired the name of their vineyard and logo. SĒPIŌ is Latin and means "to protect with a wall" and they believe that their noblest task is to protect and manage this fantastic piece of land with respect for its unique nature and history.
