Learning Center Dashboard
Overview
In this challenge, I recreated a design for my company's Global Risk Control Learning Center.
The Learning Center is meant to house all courses and videos we've created for Risk Control training. It was created to solve an issue where staff couldn't find our content or didn't know it existed. Content is organized into various categories, and each sub-category button leads to a playlist of learning content.
I created the original design several years ago under serious constraints - limited time, limited space, less design knowledge than I have now, and limited user feedback. I've wanted to redesign it for a long time and decided to recreate it as a design challenge.
The Original
I created the original design in 2021 in Articulate Storyline 360. There was a ton of information I was asked to pack into a single standard slide, resulting in a crowded design.
Feedback we received on the original design was both positive and negative, but the design was rushed to release and most feedback has never been implemented. I was always unhappy with the design, but due to time constraints wasn't able to test out further iterations.
Wireframe
As a challenge and to finally tackle something I've wanted to do for years, I created a new wireframe for this dashboard. With clearer organization, trimmed down instructions, and more room to breathe between elements, I feel it tackles many of the design issues in the original. Were I able to implement this, I would request stakeholder feedback on the layout, as well as the content.
Style Guide
My current company typically goes with a light mode for branding purposes, but since this was a personal challenge and not the 'official' mockup I might create for the company, I decided to go with a dark mode to begin with. Colors are otherwise company branding colors.
Mockup
For the mockup I created two main screens - the screen you see when you first visit the dashboard, and an example of the sub-categories. I also created some basic still images showing the hover states.
Light Mode
If I have the opportunity to implement this at my company, I know it will have to be a light mode, so I also created a light mode as an alternative to the dark mode. This design meets company branding standards.
Prototype
Finally, I created a prototype to showcase some of the behavior.
Takeaways
This was a fun challenge that I would love to have the opportunity to implement at my company. Unfortunately, our team is very small and always under time constraints for other projects. If I do have the opportunity, some adjustments will need to be made to ensure it's able to be implemented as a Cornerstone community page, the only option we currently have for hosting this dashboard. Should I be able to implement it, I'll update this page with how it went.
Thanks for checking it out! :)
