Don't believe your eyes

Yes, it's a V-shaped image. The artwork is an anamorphic illusion. Nothing in this artwork is real. The butterfly is faked. So were the flock, which is but repeats of the same image skewed or distorted in different ways and blended with an "outer glow" to give the strange aura.

The artwork was created with the concept of a little boy or girl riding a butterfly into dreamland, captured by a real camera to produce the illusion as if the "subject" was physically in the scene itself.

To see the actual illusionary effects, take out your camera and take a shot of the higher res artwork from the attachment. A quick guide is also included. You should be able to get the effect in the original image shown in the attachment.
