Monkey D. Luffy is a fictional character and the protagonist of the One Piece franchise created by Eiichiro Oda.
He is introduced as a young man whose body gains the properties of rubber after eating the Gomu-Gomu no Mi, one of several cursed fruits known as Akuma no Mi or Devil Fruits.
In pursuit of his dream of becoming the Pirate King, Luffy sails the world looking for the legendary One Piece treasure that was left behind by Gol D. Roger, the former Pirate King.
Cheerful and adventurous, Luffy creates his own crew called the Straw Hat Pirates and they are constantly antagonized by the World Government's navy.
In battle, Luffy uses his body's elasticity to stretch and fight.
