DOG WALKING APP - DA DOG!

Project overview

Brief

Create a user friendly Dog Walking App where we can connect Dog Owners with trustworthy/reliable Dog Walkers.

Problem to Solve

Many dog onwners have trouble finding trustworthy and reliable dog walkers in their area. One of the main issues is to find a dog walker that they can trust and know that their pet is happy while they are gone.

My Role

As part of The Dribbble Product Design Course, my role was to create and design this app from start to finish. Going through all the user research and user design steps and making sure the outcome solves the problem.

Market Research

We researched the market to find apps and business that would offer a similar service. This way we could identify any pros and cons and brainstorm ideas that would bring a better alternative and solution to the market.

We found out that Rover App was our main and only competitor in the area, giving us a good opportunity to enter the market.

We felt Rover App had a very corporate style. That's why we thought about offering in our app a more warm approach, telling our costumers who we are, and why we want to make sure their pets are being well taking care of and having a more friendly/family connection with our costumer.

We also brainstormed some new ideas which would help us highlight how much we worry about safety and making sure that dog walkers our trustworthy.

  • GPS tracking system where Dog Owners can track at any moment where their pet is.

  • Chat box where dog owners and walkers can be in direct communication and have photo/video updates.

User Research

We conducted several interviews with dog owners to identify their needs, behavior and any pain points when they are in search of a dog walker for their pet.

These where our conclusions:

  • Trust is their main concern. They want a dog walker who they can trust and make sure their pet is in good hands.

  • They want direct communication while their pet is gone. Photo/Video updates and GPS.

  • They also need an asy user friendly and flexible app where they could book last minute walks due to their busy work schedules.

  • They would love to be part of a community involving dog walkers and dog owners.

User Persona

User Flow

The user flow was built to be easy, simple and with the less amount of steps possible to complete a reservation. I looked to have the perfect mix between simplicity and information (reviews, profile, location, etc)

Wire Frames

During the wireframe process we explored different ideas, concepts and designs. Therefore trying to get to the perfect mix of design and user experience for our new app and then being able to move to our high fidelity versions.

Visual Design

The visual design was thought as a modern style that would attract mainly young professionals in their 30s.

The typography used is a modern bold font combining it to be attractive to the eye but also easy to read.

The color palette was chosen to be simple, white and black with orange as accent color. I believe the less amount of distracting colors is the best so that users can focus on what they are looking for and don't get distracted or lost while they are using the app.

Images are also very important in this app. I looked for warm photos that transmit the love and experience that humans have when they are with their dogs. This is key so that costumers can have a feel of the brand and the app.

Prototype

The prototype process was very important. I conducted user tests to get feedback and improve it as I went through the final process.

My main goal was to achieve a smooth user experience, where costumers enjoy navigating through the app and bringing them a solution.
