Duolingo Communities

An unofficial Duolingo extension that fosters community-based learning.

Introducing Duolingo Communities, an unofficial subsection of the platform I designed to foster stronger connections among its users. This innovative extension enables language learners to join diverse online communities where they can connect with fellow learners who share similar language goals.

Access to Duolingo Communities has been seamlessly integrated into the main learning webpage, ensuring a seamless user experience. To prioritize user security, a two-step verification portal has been implemented, providing peace of mind while engaging with the platform.

Within these communities, users can engage in private conversations with friends or actively participate in group discussions, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support. The integration of Duolingo Stickers enhances user interaction, enabling learners to express themselves creatively and add a touch of fun to their conversations. It also serves as a method of revenue generation for the company, as these stickers can be paid additions to the extension.

With Duolingo Communities, language learners can now connect, collaborate, and inspire each other, creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment within the beloved Duolingo platform.

Designer's Notes

The user interface design, created using Adobe Illustrator, embodies the distinctive style guide and aesthetics of Duolingo, maintaining a consistent and visually pleasing experience. The functional web prototype was programmed using HTML, CSS, and JS, ensuring a smooth and cohesive user interface.

In keeping with Duolingo's practice of associating specific colors with each section of their platform, the color purple was thoughtfully chosen to represent the extension of Duolingo Communities. Building upon Duolingo's established color scheme, purple was selected to symbolize the sense of community, connection, and collaboration that this extension brings to language learners.
