Character design for DIY toy

I was hired to design a series of mining robot characters for DIY toys, constructed from cardboard. The entire body of the bots is made of boxes (basically printed flat surfaces) so the 3D forms are obtained by the illustration mainly.

The background story was about outer space miner robots, and the target audience - 10 year old boys and girls.

The image above shows the face and clamp arm of one of the bots. The background environment image was illustrated for the product package.
