Moon Case Study

Moon

iOS App / NFT Marketplace

The goal of this project was to establish a visual language for a new NFT marketplace app that is ready to revolutionize the digital art scene. Lock a visual aesthetic and scale the design on multiple screens based on the wireframes provided from the client. Build a UI Library for the final UI and create a functional prototype.

The audience of this project is all those people that are embracing and following, in a way or another the world of NFT and digital art. We’re talking mainly about tech savvy people that know their way online and in the world of crypto and NFT, with also a strong sense for visual aesthetic and art, they value curated and beautiful experiences as much as they do with the digital art that they create, buy and/or sell.

As the UI Designer for the project, my responsibilities included:

  • Creating a visual aesthetic for the brand and app

  • Design screens based on the provided wireframes using Figma

  • Build a UI Style Guide and Component Library using Figma

Takeaways and next steps

By doing this case study, I learned the fundamentals of turning a concept into a design. Along the way, I also learned how to create scalable and maintainable designs in Figma. Most importantly, I learned the following lessons:

  1. Visual exploration is crucial to create a beautiful design. You shouldn't settle on your first design. Beautiful and functional apps come from lots of iteration and experimentation.

  2. Staying organized in Figma will pay off in the long run. As soon as you decide on concept you want to scale, start creating styles and components in Figma. Auto Layout is also an extremely helpful tool for experimenting with different layouts and will save you from manually updating spaces and margins.

  3. Inspiration can be found anywhere. It's also okay to use other designs as inspiration or a starting point, as long as you're iterating and making it your own.

Through my final designs, I think I showed that an NFT marketplace does not have to fit into the typical styles you see in the cryptocurrency space (dark backgrounds, bright neon colors). I also believe that design does not have to be complex to be impactful. I tried showing this through combining bright and colorful elements with muted backgrounds and soft shadows.

For next steps, I would build a functional prototype to mimic how the user would interact with the app. I also want to take the concepts I learned from this case study and apply them to personal projects I've been working on.
