Two Year Celebration Graphic
On Saturday, I celebrated TWO WHOLE YEARS as an independent designer 👏🏼 Here are 10 things I’ve learned:
1. People will ghost you, I’ve learned to not it personally.
2. Just because your client doesn’t love your concept the first round doesn’t mean you’re a bad designer, it just means you need more time.
3. Your clients are hiring you for your expertise first, then your talents next. Go above and beyond, don’t only do what they tell you to do.
4. Just because somebody goes with another designer doesn’t mean you’re not worthy.
5. You don’t have to have full time employees to offer more services. Collaborate with others on a project basis.
6. You will have slow periods, learn to love them and accept them. They are not a reflection of your talent.
7. It’s okay to unplug on your vacations. You’d do it if you worked for a company.
8. Take the sick days if you’re sick. Seriously.
9. Share your work with creative people you trust and take their constructive criticism. They have a fresh set of eyes.
10. Cold email marketing managers, art directors, other designers, etc. They don’t know you’re out there if you don’t tell them.
