Dashboard for an innovative energy storage product

BatteryLoop is quite a new company that originated as an initiative by the Stena Recycling Group and is now part of Stena Metal. They have developed a product called BLESS, which utilises recycled car batteries to store energy. The primary feature of the BLESS is allowing customers to purchase electricity from the grid at lower rates and use it when prices are higher, resulting in cost savings. Additionally, the BLESS offers other smart features such as peak shaving, saving solar energy, and power boosting to overcome grid constraints.

BatteryLoop identified that their customers were not fully understanding the value of the BLESS product they purchased. To address this, they approached out team with the goal of creating a user-friendly dashboard that showcases the BLESS's operations and value. The vision was to increase customer value by providing a clear understanding of the BLESS through an intuitive interface.

The project aimed to create a user-friendly dashboard that effectively communicates the BLESS's operations and value to BatteryLoop's customers. We asked ourselves "how might we show the value the BLESS performs for our customers in order to understand how good it is?".

The final design consisted of three main views: live view, energy storage view, and consumption view. The live view displayed real-time information on the BLESS's current state, including its charging source and power flow. The energy storage view provided insights into the BLESS's historical energy input and output. The consumption view showcased the total energy consumption, savings achieved through BLESS usage, and detailed breakdowns of cost savings from energy storage and peak shaving.

In the live view, we wanted to visually represent the current power flow on the specific site in a way that was both informative and visually appealing. We took inspiration from BatteryLoop's logo, which features a circular design with dots representing energy flow. We thought it would be a great idea to incorporate this design element into the live view illustration.

The circular design of the illustration not only aligns with BatteryLoop's branding but also serves a functional purpose. It allows for easy scalability as different sites may have varying energy storage capacities. By using a circular layout, we can simply add or remove dots to represent different energy sources or flows specific to each site. This flexibility ensures that the live view remains dynamic and adaptable to different scenarios.
