Case study: 'Help Me Write' Feature for Gmail [Google I/O 2023]

Hi Guys! ✌️

The future is already here!

Gmail Help Me Write announced at Google I/O 2023

Google announced a new feature for Gmail that will allow the email app to write full emails on your behalf. Being a UX designer, I possess a strong passion for staying updated on the most recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence. The unveiling of "Gmail Help Me Write" during Google I/O 2023 intensified my enthusiasm for this domain. I decided to test my skills and recreate the design of the Help Me Write feature from Google, which was demonstrated at the presentation.

The new feature, called Help Me Write, was announced (May 10) at Google I/O 2023. It's somewhat of a supercharged extension of the existing Smart Compose feature, which can automatically add a short phrase to a reply based on the email you've received. After the email is crafted, you then have the option of refining the message using a dropdown menu with several options: Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten, and I’m Feeling Lucky.

User story

I use Gmail for all my communication needs, but sometimes I struggle to find the right words to convey my message effectively. That's why I was excited to learn about the 'Help Me Write' feature in Gmail.

One day, I needed to send an important email to a potential client, but I wasn't sure how to start or what to say. I clicked on the 'Help Me Write' button in the Gmail compose window, and the AI-powered tool suggested some phrases and sentences based on the context of my email. The tool also helped me refine my language and tone to ensure my email came across as professional and engaging.

Thanks to the 'Help Me Write' feature, I was able to save time and write an effective email that helped me win over the client. Now, whenever I need to write an email, I feel more confident and productive knowing that I have an AI-powered writing assistant to help me.
