Cinema Club - Movie Theater App
Cinema Club
A mobile app that offers a simple and efficient way to book movie tickets near you.
Project Overview
Problem
Movie theaters have always been a popular choice of entertainment, but the seat selection experience can be frustrating for users. The existing movie theater mobile apps lack effective seat selection designs, leading to confusion among users about the available seat selection options.
Solution
I created a mobile app that would enhance the seat selection experience for users. My objective was to make the process easy to use, intuitive, and visually engaging.
Understanding the User
Interviews
I recruited 5 people to participate in the interview process. These people love watching movies in theaters at least twice a month. From the interviews, I gathered insights into the most common user pain points, desires, and expectations concerning the process.
Guiding Questions:
Which is your preferred way of looking for movies & buying tickets?
What will enhance your experience?
What are the apps or sites you use the most to purchase movie tickets?
Research Findings
Through my interviews, I realized that selecting a seat in a movie theater impacted people more than I imagined. The frustration of realizing the wrong seat was selected upon arrival has a huge affect on their overall movie experience. Also, the process of selecting seats is confusing for many.
Market Research
To understand the market trend, I conducted market research on available movie theater mobile apps focusing on the seat selection feature. I analyzed the user interface and the user experience of the apps currently being used by people and took their feedback.
Personas
Based on the user interviews and market research conducted, I created two personas that represented the typical target user for the app. The personas helped me generate a better understanding of my target audience and, in turn, helped me to design better solutions.
User Flow
User flows helped me map out the path that users take when interacting with the app. The user flow provided an overview of the entire app and helped me identify potential gaps in the design or functionality.
Low Fidelity Wireframes
Once I completed the user flow, I moved on to the low-fidelity wireframes. I created low-fidelity wireframes such that they had the basic modules without much concern for visual details, making it easy for me to iterate and make changes in the design.
Visual Design
After validating the low-fidelity wireframes, I moved on to the visual design. I made sure that the design was consistent and had a visual hierarchy. The design had to be easy to use and intuitive to navigate.

High Fidelity Wireframes
The final step was to create high-fidelity wireframes, considering all the requirements, remarks from all the testing, and the visual design - everything that completes the product in entirety. The high-fidelity wireframes were tested with users for looking out for any glitches or areas of improvement.
Usability Testing
The usability testing was carried out with real users and people with varying levels of technical knowledge to validate the effectiveness of the app. I took feedback from users and identified any pain points or areas of improvement.
Final Design
After validating all the wireframes, incorporating feedback from users, and carefully considering all the aspects, I finally produced a mobile app that offered excellent seat selection functionality. The interface was user-friendly, intuitive, easy to navigate, and had a visual hierarchy.
Takeaways
Creating the movie theater mobile app allowed me to develop a deep understanding of users and their preferences. It emphasized the importance of conducting user research, which guided the design process. Building wireframes and prototypes helped with thorough prototyping techniques, which was feedback-driven, which helped to create an efficient, practical, and user-friendly app.
