Wonder Woman in Neo-Bengal Folk Art

Wonder Woman's imagery and mythological origins are inspired by Greek mythology, including the Amazons, Aphrodite, and Athena.

William Moulton Marston created Wonder Woman as a strong, independent female role model. Marston's progressive views on women's rights were influenced by his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and their partner Olive Byrne, as well as the women's suffrage movement and early feminists.

Marston aimed to create a character who would use love and understanding to defeat violence, drawing on values he believed women possess more strongly than men, including honesty, reliability, and efficiency.
