Transforming A 2D Real Estate Floor Plan Into A 3D Experience
Using Blender, I transformed this 2D floor plan into a 3D virtual tour experience of an apartment unit. Renderings are great tools for real estate agents and developers to use to help potential clients visualize a space before it is completed and furnished. Why not animate it too, right?
Process
Building this 3D animation was labor-intensive, and took nearly a week to render—using two computers! Was it worth it? I think so!
The overall concept was developed while tinkering with some new tools in Blender in with which I could trace a floor plan to accurately build a 3D shell of a layout. I then decided to furnish the scene and add a camera that travels on a path through the unit to give viewers a 3D Virtual Tour of the apartment.
