The mark is more representative of cincy's history as the steamboat capital of the world when the town was known as porkopolis. A name it received during the mid 1800s for the largest shipments of pork in the country.

The paddle wheel that sits on top of the mark also suggests the shape of a crown representing another one of the city's nicknames, the Queen City.
