What is Niteowl?

Designed for all your late-night needs, Niteowl is your nocturnal guide to an effortless night out. Featuring locations open past 9PM, Niteowl provides a smooth search experience for those out on the town after normal business hours. With the ability to sync social media contacts and connect to Uber, you can easily see what your friends are up to and create a game plan for an amazing night out!

My role:

Concept and UX Research, Wireframing, Branding, Final UI, Interactive Prototyping

Process & Challenge:

Through research and external product testing of similar existing apps (such as Yelp), I identified 4 key pain points. These were crucial in identifying user personas and their specific needs.

Key Pain Points of other apps:

(1) Lack of connection to rideshare apps such as Uber, Lyft

(2) Inability to accurately find establishments open past standard business hours

(3) Inability to create a schedule of planned outings to restaurants/bars/etc

(4) Lack of organization/usability in browsing categories and setting filters

Solution:

(1) Users can reroute to Uber or Lyft through the business page of a location by clicking "get directions". The ease of this option will hopefully deter people from driving while intoxicated, as there’s a high chance the user will plan on drinking during their night out.

(2) I designed Niteowl with the ability to automatically filter out any businesses that are already closed at time of the user’s search.

(3) Users are able add a location or event to their customized schedule on the app.

(4) To improve on the information architecture of other business search apps like Yelp, I created an organized category and filter system that aids the user in finding what they are looking for.
