British Insurance Award Bake off

As a Graphic Designer and Marketer in any company, you are naturally the video editor. However I can’t lie, I was thrilled when Quality Care Group tasked me with creating a video submission for The British Insurance Awards 2023. Our challenge was to bake a cake worthy of a Paul Hollywood handshake and showcase the process in a photo or video submission.

I started by brainstorming cake flavors and settled on a classic chocolate cake. The baking process was enjoyable, and I was careful to document each step of the way. As a one-person film crew, it was challenging to film myself while also ensuring that the footage was steady and in focus. However, with some creative angles and a bit of practice, I managed to capture all the necessary shots.

After the baking was complete, it was time to edit the video. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to stitch together the footage and add music and sound effects to make the video more engaging. I also incorporated the logo animation and ending animation, both of which I designed in Adobe After Effects. The logo animation had a wobbly and wholesome effect, reflecting the spirit of the bake-off challenge and the joy of baking.

I realizsed during the editing process that I had forgotten to wear the apron provided by the organizers. To remedy this, I added a photo of myself wearing the apron at the end of the video.

Overall, the experience of filming and editing the video submission was both challenging and rewarding. I learned a lot about baking and video production and was proud to submit our video entry for The British Insurance Awards 2023.
