JOHN BARLEYCORN - JACK LONDON: BOOK COVER
I illustrated the cover for ''John Barleycorn'' by Jack London. It is the visual equivalent of a good stiff drink - earthy, complex, and totally irresistible. Illustrated by yours truly, it features the words "Heinold's First and Last Chance," which is the name of a legendary Oakland saloon that Jack London used to frequent. I chose to feature the saloon so prominently on the cover because it's where London did some of his best writing, and also where he did some of his best drinking (which, let's be honest, is often the same thing). The earthy tones of the cover capture the rugged landscapes and raw emotions of London's memoir, while also giving a nod to the natural world that he so often wrote about.
